Founded in early 1940 as part of San Diego’s assistance to the people of Finland during the Winter War, the House of Finland has been in continuous operation since that time. Our mission is to bring to life the culture and face of Finland for the citizenry and visitors in Balboa Park. We offer a weekend full of song and dance and the folkloric customs of the Finnish Nation, while showing that we are also a modern Scandinavian country. The House of Finland, like its people is firmly rooted in Western ideals, culture and values and an abiding faith in individual freedoms.
We are volunteers all. We put together events and feasts for members and visitors. Besides the traditional open house to all, we celebrate Midsummer’s and Christmas in the traditional manner entertaining adults and children of all ages, and publish a quarterly newsletter of activities. We are a gathering and focal point for Finns in the San Diego area, interfacing regularly with the Finnish Lutheran Church, the Finnish American Chamber of Commerce and the Finnish School. All Finnish-minded folk are invited to join for a nominal annual membership fee. In return you will receive a rewarding opportunity to join in our culture and heritage, participate in sports and cultural activities, while getting a heartwarming feeling of being part of the cultural diversity in San Diego
